Chilli!

Friday 2nd November 2012

After weeks of depression as the flowers have dropped off, finally there is a chilli on its way!!

We are very proud.

Week 8

Friday 14th September

The chilli plants are now strong enough to hold even the biggest monkeys.

We also discovered today that a new monkey has been discovered in Africa, which was exciting news for the chilli monkeys.

Week 7

Week 7

Friday 7th September

Acrobats

Next week we will be hanging lots of monkeys.

It's been a stressful few weeks...

Week 4

Week 4(ish)

Monday 20th August

And then there were three...

We are struggling to control the chilis' growth and have had to split them into three pots. They are being carefully rotated to try to make them grow straight, but soon they will need restraining as they are not yet proficient at standing up on their own!

Even the monkeys are having trouble controlling the chilis, although they are still faithfully keeping guard over each pot.

Aspiration

These are Steve's chillis.

One day we hope our chillis will look like this.

We will post updates of how our guys are doing later today...

Day 11

Day 11

Thursday 2nd August

Monkey Rage!

Pirate monkeys finally defeat Mr Blue once and for all.

Due to the chillis impressive rate of growth, we have split them into two pots to help them grow. We hope this operation has not damaged them. The monkeys are keeping a close watch.

Day 10

Day 10

Wednesday1st August

Excellent growth from the chillis. We are very excited.

The monkeys are continuing to attack Mr Blue. We fear for his life.

Day 9

Day 9

Tuesday 31st July

No more monkeys!

The shoots have started to take over the pot and the monkeys have retreated in fear.  However they have defeated Mr Blue and put up their own flag so we are expecting to see more from them soon.

Day 8

Day 8

Monday 30th July

Now there are shoots peeping out we have visitors flocking to the chilli plantation to see. There are two new monkeys waiting patiently to be allowed into the pot for a closer look at the chillis.

Meanwhile, the pirates have taken a dislike to Mr Blue and look like they are going in for the kill. Will Mr Blue survive this attack??

Day 6-7

Day 6-7

Saturday 28th - Sunday 29th July

Shoots!

Something very exciting has happened. Even the monkeys have taken a step back to celebrate this moment... shoots have appeared over the weekend!

We hope to be tasting chillis soon... maybe this year.

Day 5

Day 5

Friday 27th July

The monkeys are still biding their time...

Thursday, 26 July 2012

Day 4

Day 4

Thursday 26th July

In a dramatic turn of events three newcomers have arrived on the battlefield that is the chilli pot. So far the intention of these pirates is unclear. Have they come to defend the chilli plants and take on Mr Blue, or are they here for a more sinister reason? We will keep a close eye on the situation.
On a different note, it seems it could take a while for us to see any action from the chilli seeds themselves. The Chilli King suggests that it could take anything from one week to six weeks:

The time taken for germination varies greatly between varieties. More common varieties such as Apache or jalapeno usually germinate in anything between 1-3 weeks. Other more fickle varieties such as Habenero may take up to 6 weeks or longer. The key is to be patient!
It's hard to say what type of chilis we are trying to grow.

Day 3

Day 3

Wednesday 25th July

The Independent Republic of Soniquistan leave their mark

Invasion!

Today the chilli seeds have been subject to an attack by a mystery figure bearing a flag.  They are maintaining their cool and staying hidden under the soil.  We are impressed with this battle tactic so far.

Day 2

Day 2

Tuesday 24th July

Not much is going on in the world of the chilli plant so far.

We read that you should keep them consistently watered, unless there is a lot of rain. This is unlikely to be a problem.
